Rock Steady Boxing is a community fighting back together against Parkinson's disease. These classes are specifically designed to address Parkinson's symptoms such as slow or small movements, imbalance, stiffness, flexed posture, and respiratory weakness. The Owensboro Family YMCA hosts classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 11:30AM for individuals with Parkinson's Disease. While those participants exercise, their care partners have the option of coming to a support group where they get an opportunity to talk, make crafts, and relax.
A: Yes! We recommend that you call the Y to set up a time for a preassessment. During the preassessment, the Y staff will get to know you and your current condition so that we can be prepared for your first class.
A: This program is completely FREE to the community. We ask that you fill out intake paper work so that we know how best to serve you. You are not required to sign up for a Y membership if you only want to do this program. However, if you or your care partner wants to utilize the other group exercise classes, the pool, or the fitness floor, then you will need to register for a membership.
A: Of course! We want you to be as comfortable as possible, and you're welcome to join your boxer.
