HISTORY

Established May 28, 1895, the Owensboro Family YMCA has served the Greater Daviess County communities for 127 years. We have been blessed to serve the community as it has grown and progressed. The final two words of our mission statement, "for all", indicate our continuing goal of inclusion for any that wish to enjoy a YMCA experience. Regardless of race, religion, age, income, social status, or other demographics, the Y welcomes all and serves the community as a gathering place and safe haven. While often considered a gym, the Y is much more and focuses on Spirit, Mind and Body while weaving our core values of Faith, Respect, Responsibility Caring and Honesty into our programs.

In 2021, our Y furnished financial assistance to 423 individuals with $45,020 as a part of our scholarships for membership and programs. In addition, we continued to answer the childcare need by offering after-school care to 36 students and attempted to assist with virtual learning processes. All such assistance is approved with applications and supporting documents to validate needs, and all are asked to pay a portion of the program or membership fees so that they have "skin in the game" as they accept a hand up, not a hand-out.

The Owensboro Family YMCA is a unique non-profit. We have adjusted our programs to meet community needs in a variety of ways over our 127 years, and we have the presence and partnerships to not only promise but also deliver lasting impact with personal and social changes.
